Wildlife Garden

A large garden with beautiful, original Arts and Crafts elements in keeping with the architecture of the property, was being slowly rejuvenated by the clients. As part of this, they wished to break up the huge expanse of lawn and link different areas of the garden together. Keen to attract wildlife to the garden and retain the charm and feel of the existing elements, the scheme required a light touch, with a focus on plants creating the impact desired.

The design created two long and wide planting beds across the full extent of the lawn.  Central grass steps lined with Cherry Trees linked the new beds to the established orchard beyond.  A beautiful sculptural stone bird bath commissioned by the clients provides a key central focal point.  A small brick seating area was created at the end of a old lime walk and further planting beds were extended and replanted. A modern planting scheme was used to bring colour, movement and texture and to provide visual links between the areas. Grasses and tall perennials are left to stand throughout autumn and early winter to provide food for birds and a long season of interest.
