Hampshire Cottage Garden - Arches and Obelisks

Originally, this garden had only a wide expanse of lawn with little planting except along the boundaries.

The design sets out to break up the space into a series of different areas and to bring planting nearer to the property with a wide planting bed over which the rest of the garden can be glimpsed. A metal arch leads from the terrace, creating an entrance to the garden via a gravel path. The path extends around the garden, passing a metal bench which enjoys the evening sun, towards twin obelisks and a central timber arch, which combine to create an informal divide across the space. The path continues centrally towards a shady woodland area at the back of the garden.

Planted with traditional cottage garden plants including roses, shrubs and topiary to give structure, this is a gardener's garden, lovingly tended and enjoyed.
