CAROLINE DE LANE LEA
GARDEN DESIGN
Creating beautiful, practical outdoor spaces to use and enjoy
A City Retreat For Entertaining
This classic terraced property was extended to provide a kitchen/dining room with bi-fold doors providing a year-round view of the garden. The clients wanted space for outdoor eating and entertaining as well as space for a BBQ, bike store and low-maintenance planting for seasonal colour.
The design exploited the opportunity to extend the feel of the kitchen by using the same paving inside and out. This allowed for an interesting level change and the creation of a sunken deck. The use of raised planters at sitting height also adds interesting level changes to the garden, as does the feature wall. Built to screen the bike store, it also supports the stainless steel water blade provides a key focal point. A built-in timber bench seat provides a spot to relax, read a book or a coffee or glass of wine. The BBQ is stored behind the bench and can be wheeled out into the middle of the deck, making the space very adaptable for outdoor eating and entertaining.
